InROC Overdose Awareness Day Event - Necessary Stories
August 31, 2020
Time: 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Indiana Rural Opioid Consortium (InROC) program director, Dr. Amnah Anwar and Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA) Policy, Research & Development Officer, Cody Mullen, PhD, will host a live YouTube event focused on International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD).
Join us for an afternoon of necessary stories – stories of incredible hardship, loss, displacement, uncertainty, and recovery. We will hear from Katrina Norris, LCSW, who will speak about her experience raising her grandchildren while their mother tries to cope with substance use disorder (SUD). Kara Dawson, RN will share her story of living in fear of an ex-husband with SUD, the stigma of abuse, and finally the decision to leave that relationship for the sake of her and her children's safety. Finally, Charmin Gabbard, RC will detail her path to and beyond substance use through the lenses of a traumatic childhood, the criminal justice system, and ultimately long-term recovery.
The audience will be able to interact with hosts and others via live YouTube chat during the event and will also have the opportunity to connect with InROC team members via secure link where confidential questions may be asked.
