IRHA Senior Director, Tina Elliott, was awarded the Public Health Service Award this past week for tobacco work with the Indiana Department of Health and the Vigo County Coalition since 2010. She is being awarded in recognition of her outstanding efforts to promote tobacco cessation.

Since 2010, Indiana Rural Health Association has been a statewide partner with ISDH/TPC to assess current healthcare facilities regarding tobacco use and to determine those facilities that are targeted for the systems change approach, including academic detailing and reference to components of the Clinical Practice Guideline. Indiana Tobacco Quitline integration/academic detailing is promoted through educational opportunities and presentations to healthcare facilities’ and employers’ staff. IRHA provides outreach to the unfunded counties in the state for cessation systems change to enroll healthcare providers and employers in rural areas in the TPC Preferred Networks and provide tobacco use treatment resources to Rural Health Clinics, Critical Access Hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. IRHA is an established organization with existing working relationships with the RHCs and CAHs, which provides an ideal situation to share resources on cessation systems change.

Tina has been and continues to be a integral part of this effort. Congratulations Tina! We appreciate all you do!
