Joanah Wischmeier, BSN, RN, is the Project Director for Healthy Start Communities that C.A.R.E. This program, funded through HRSA, targets women of childbearing age in promoting healthy pregnancies to reduce infant mortality rates specific to Daviess, Dubois, Greene, & Martin counties. Through this program, Perinatal Navigators work one on one with moms who are already pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or recently delivered, up until 18 months of age. Involved fathers are also encouraged to participate in the program. This specially trained team educates and trains on a variety of health-related topics, as well as submits referrals to other specialties, as needed, to optimize the care for the program participant. The optimal goal is to provide tailored care to the program participant in order to reach a positive birth outcome for the mom, baby, father, and family.
Joanah joined our staff in April 2019 with 18 years' prior experience as a Registered Nurse. She graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2001 as a Registered Nurse with an Associate of Science in Nursing. At this time, she also graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Services. Joanah continued to pursue her education and graduated one year later, in 2002, with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Joanah has prior experience in Medical-Surgical nursing, Pre & Post-Op nursing, and Chronic Disease Management. Joanah has spent her last 10+ years as a RN promoting health & wellness outreach to local corporations and the community in Jackson County, IN, in which she resides. In 2013, Joanah completed training through The Cooper Institute in Dallas, TX, in Coaching Healthy Behaviors. In 2016, she became a certified ACE (American Council on Exercise) Health Coach. Joanah has provided health coaching services from 2016-2019, to local employees and community members. In addition, she is also a certified facilitator for CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program), as well as certified in Faciitative Leadership through Purdue Extension.
Joanah currently resides on their family farm in Jackson County, Indiana, with her husband and three sons, ages 14, 12, & 5. The family of five is actively involved in their community, specifically 4-H and school and church-based activities, where they are active members. In her spare time, you are likely to find her cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers, as well as any sporting event of Lutheran Central or Brownstown Central, in which her sons are competing. Joanah enjoys spending time with her family and friends on a beach vacation, along with boating & camping, as well as running and swimming. She also enjoys raising Siberian Huskies and Labradors on their family farm.
