Jim Miller Student Scholarship Fund

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and fundraising events, the Indiana Rural Health Association Jim Miller Student Scholarship Fund has been able to offer scholarships to full-time health professions students to attend the IRHA Annual Conference.

Jim served as the Revenue Cycle Consultant at the IRHA before he passed away in August 2020. Jim was dedicated to providing information to health profession students, better preparing them for their future careers in healthcare.  IRHA is proud to honor him in this way.

About Jim Miller by Phil Ellis

Jim Miller was an uncommon man, his passion for service was unparalleled by anyone I’ve known. If you had the pleasure to know Jim, you knew of his service and dedication to education; and he pursued that through a variety of venues. To Jim, education was not just classrooms, it was a way of life, he valued teaching moments in every aspect of life. As the President of the IN HFMA, to his employment at IRHA, and his commitment to volunteerism at, well, where would I begin with that, he served everywhere.

Jim knew not a stranger. He could meet someone for the first time in a rural Indiana town and in a matter of minutes, they exchanged notes about someone who played high school basketball in that community. Jim would recite his average points per game, rebounds, and assists. And probably where he lived and half of his family’s names.

Perhaps Jim’s greatest teaching moment was every moment of his day, every day. Simply stated, he lived by example. God help you if you stood between Jim and someone asking for a volunteer.

Jim was a business colleague, golf colleague, and an everyday friend. I miss him every day, but he left us with something to remember him by. So whenever you see service in action, anywhere, by anyone, you still see Jim.
